The YMCA of Northeastern Ontario has announced the appointment of Antoine Vezina as the Chair of the Board of Directors for the 2024 to 2025 term.

“We are so pleased to have Antoine sitting at the helm of our new Board of Directors as we look toward a healthy and promising future at the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario,” said President Lorrie Turnbull.

Vezina served on the Board of Directors for the Timmins Family YMCA since 2013 and joined the Board of Directors for the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario following the Timmins amalgamation with the North Bay YMCA and Sudbury YMCA in 2021.

He is joined by returning board members Kristian Gareau (past Chair), Helene Philbin Wilkinson (Vice-Chair), Brian Getty (Treasurer/Secretary), Joe Torlone (Director), Grant Kellett (Director), Elaine Hull (Director), Brian Getty (Director) and Steph Klein (Director) as well as new board members Sally Dunton, Patrick Shay, Mike Guillemette and Ted Majkot.

With a master’s degree in business administration and years of experience working in community development in the public sector, Vezina brings a deep well of experience with him to the role of Board Chair.

Vezina says he is excited to carry on the legacy and hard work of past chair Kristian Gareau and all past and present board members from the three communities the YMCA of Northeastern Ontario serves.

“Regardless of geographic location, we are working together toward one goal,” said Vezina. “We’re all one Y trying to make sure that the organization does what it does best in each of our communities: provide safe and supportive spaces for our youth and all community members to thrive.”
