Sometimes people just make it easy for police, at least according to a news release from the Nipissing West OPP detachment.
The release states officers were on patrol on Highway 69 at around 1:48 a.m. on Feb. 24 when they stopped to assist a vehicle parked on the side of the road with its hazard lights flashing.
It didn’t take long for police to see something was off and they initiated a search of the vehicle. Police allege the search turned up a firearm, Canadian currency and drugs suspected to be cocaine, oxycodone and cannabis.
A 25-year-old from Sudbury was arrested and charged with possession of loaded prohibited or restricted firearm; unauthorized possession of a prohibited or restricted firearm; occupant of motor vehicle knowing there was firearm in the vehicle; possession of a firearm or ammunition contrary to a prohibition order (three counts); failure to comply with a probation order; possession of a firearm knowing serial number has been tampered with; possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking cocaine; possession of a Schedule I Substance, cocaine; possession of a Schedule I substance, other drugs (two counts), and; possession of proceeds of property obtained by crime under $5,000.
The accused was held for bail court on Feb. 24 and was remanded back into custody with a return schedule to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice in Sudbury on March 4.
