RTOERO District 44 Franco-Nipissing has donated $4,000 to Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs to host a variety of events for the North Bay area’s Francophone senior community. The Passepart Bien-être initiative includes fitness programs, leisure and interest groups, and social events.

The funding provided to District 44 is part of RTOERO's annual Community Grants Program. Since 1968, RTOERO has been the voice of teachers, school and board administrators, education support staff, and retired college and university faculty.

Our mission is to improve the quality of life of our members and seniors in general. RTOERO members share a desire to give back to the community. Each year, Districts apply for grants to support projects in their communities. In 2024, RTOERO funded 31 projects totaling $122,252.

Les Compagnons des Francs Loisirs offers a range of programs tailored to the needs of French-speaking seniors. Funding provided by District 44 will cover essential expenses such as facilitators, supplies and other materials needed to ensure the success of the program.

“This initiative aims to enable meaningful, engaging and enjoyable social experiences, while supporting the cultural and linguistic needs of the Francophone community,” says Émilie Johnson, President of RTOERO’s District 44 Franco-Nipissing.

Each year, a committee of RTOERO members evaluates the merits of each application to the grant program. These projects cover everything from environmental sustainability to healthy and age-friendly communities. Since the Community Grants Program began 24 years ago, RTOERO has awarded nearly $2.1 million to more than 600 programs and projects.

“Our members actively contribute to the well-being of their communities across Canada. RTOERO Districts are involved in community development through grants and practical support to local organizations,” said John Cappelletti, Chair of the RTOERO Board of Directors.

District 44 Franco-Nipissing, includes approximately 300 members spread across the communities of Astorville, Bonfield, Cache Bay, Callander, Corbeil, Crystal Falls, Field, Lavigne, North Bay, Mattawa, River Valley, Sturgeon Falls, Thorne and Verner. The district plays a vital role in helping its members stay involved and connected, with each other and in the community.
