Northgate Shopping Centre is partnering with Kids Help Phone to propel the momentum of the CHECK-IN initiative with a heART Therapy contest ahead of the back-to-school season.

This ongoing partnership aims to emphasize the importance of creative expression and simple positive gestures in nurturing personal well-being.

From today until September 30, the heART Therapy contest invites local youth to showcase how they use art for mental wellness.

With art therapy proven to positively impact mental health, the contest encourages creative self-expression in any form, highlighting the diverse ways Canadians experience their mental health journey.

Art submissions will be featured in the National heART Gallery on the CHECK-IN microsite and on social media.

Participants who share their favourite “art for therapy” will have a chance to win one of four $250 shopping sprees to Northgate Shopping Centre or a Morguard retail centre of their choosing.

Additionally, participants who upload an image of their own art for therapy project, along with a description of 100 words or less explaining how it helps with their mental wellness, will have the opportunity to win an iPhone 15 Pro and a $500 shopping spree to Northgate Shopping Centre or a Morguard retail centre of their choosing.

“Northgate Shopping Centre is excited to continue partnering with Kids Help Phone to engage with the Northgate community and raise awareness around mental health wellness," said Shaun Harcus, general manager of Northgate Shopping Centre.

"The contest serves as a great practice for people to find their own creative and artistic ways to express themselves and alleviate their stress and anxiety. We look forward to seeing their artworks."

Moreover, Northgate Shopping Centre is hosting a Free Friendship Bracelet Workshop on August 23 rd from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., aiming to encourage participants to express their own thoughts and feelings though different creative methods, fostering positive mental health. Building on last spring’s successful interactive donation events, large cellphone interactive displays will return, allowing visitors to scan QR codes for uplifting messages.

For each scan, Morguard will donate $2 to Kids Help Phone.
