Don Curry, the founding executive director of the North Bay & District Multicultural Centre, resigned his most recent position as chair of the board in December to launch Curry Immigration Consulting.
“It was a rigorous process to become a Regulated Canadian Immigration Consultant,” Curry says in a news release. “I took 10 months of courses through the University of British Columbia to graduate with a certificate in immigration law, policies and procedures. After that, it was a three-hour exam to earn the RCIC designation.” He also has BA and MA degrees.
RCICs are regulated by the Immigration Consultants of Canada Regulatory Council and consultants operating without the RCIC designation are subject to fines or a prison term. Curry is also a member of the Canadian Association of Professional Immigration Consultants. In addition, he is a Commissioner for Taking Affidavits, licensed by the Province of Ontario.
He has clients from outside of Canada as well as locally and plans to serve local immigrants and international students seeking to become permanent residents. He also plans to work with employers who can’t find Canadians or permanent residents for job openings.
He offers services for all types of immigration categories and can complete citizenship applications as well. Through a partnership with EnglishExamPrep.com, he offers clients a 30-hour online training program to prepare for their English competency test.
“It’s not just filling in forms on behalf of clients,” he says. “The onus is on the applicant to prove he or she meets all criteria and a strong submission letter with optional documents goes a long way to doing that.”
Curry is operating from a home office and has a website at www.curryconsulting.ca He can be reached by email at [email protected] or by phone at 705-475-6396.
He says retirement isn’t for everyone. “I have to stay busy doing something I enjoy and this is a perfect fit for me,” says the 72-year-old. “I enjoy playing golf and travelling but you don’t have to be retired to do that.”
