Nipissing University is pleased to announce that Cheryl Sutton has been appointed vice-president, finance and administration. Her five-year term begins immediately and will run until 2021.
Following a three-month national search, Sutton was recommended for the position by the search committee which was comprised of representatives from an assortment of university constituency groups including the Board of Governors, tenured faculty, administration and support staff.
Sutton brings with her more than 25 years of experience as a chartered professional accountant/certified general accountant working successfully in public service. She first joined the university in 2010 as the director of human resources and employee relations, and in 2014, she took on the role of assistant vice-president, finance and human resources. Before coming to Nipissing, Sutton spent several years at Ontario Northland where her career progressed from the manager of accounting in 1991 to the vice-president of passenger services in 2005.
“On behalf of the search committee, I am pleased to announce the appointment of Cheryl Sutton as vice-president, finance and administration,” said Mike DeGagné, president and vice-chancellor. “She has proven to be a valuable asset to this institution over the last six years, bringing her excellent interpersonal skills and a wealth of experience in financial management, executive leadership, collaboration and strategic decision making. Nipissing’s financial and administrative functions are in capable hands that will help the University succeed.”
“I’m excited to be taking on the role of vice-president, finance and administration at Nipissing University,” said Sutton. “North Bay is my home, and Nipissing plays a large and important role in this community, culturally, economically and socially. I am honoured to help Nipissing continue to build on its successes and achieve its goals.”
