Powassan and District Union Public Library will host its 7th annual fund-raising golf tournament Thursday July 25, to raise money for new programming at the library, specifically for youth and senior citizens.

This annual golf tournament is part of the Powassan Library's campaign to raise funds to support the needs of the communities that the Library serves, and the library stresses that now fundraising is more imperative than ever.

“The library is so much more than just a library, it is a community hub which houses many events to keep Powassan and its surrounding communities engaged,” states Tournament co-organizer, Hayden Wice. “Last year alone, the library had a cumulative program attendance of over 4,600 people, and so we wish to continue growing our numbers by raising money for continuing and new programs."

The event will be a four-person team 18-hole scramble held at Highview Golf Course in Powassan. The early bird cost for each golfer is $75, which includes golf cart rentals and dinner. Tee-off is at 1 p.m.

With Powassan Home Hardware sponsoring the Hole-in-One competition, there is over $10,000 in prizes to be won, according to a library release. The library is still looking for hole sponsors and prize donors for the tournament and businesses are encouraged to reach out and support the cause.

The Powassan and District Union Public Library currently serves over 1,500 patrons, retains over 24,000 volumes, provides computer technology, internet, and social media access, and delivers a large variety of programs for all ages.
