Fifty-four year old man charged in slingshot assault

OPP say shortly after 4 p.m. on October 25, officers were called about a man who was hit with a small steel ball in Blind River.

An owner of an apartment building was making repairs to a door when he was hit with a ball bearing. A second shot had missed him, hitting his building. 

Investigation showed the ball bearings were fired from a slingshot.  

The shots came from an apartment across the road where a man was seen near an open window. 

Police went to the apartment and found a slingshot and ball bearings. 

As a result of the investigation, Edward Martel, 54, from Blind River, was charged with:

  • Mischief Under $5,000, and with
  • Assault with a Weapon,
