The YMCA is getting close to its Strong Kids Campaign goal.

The organization held a Strong Kids Campaign breakfast on Tuesday with donations of more than $5,000 courtesy of the Elks Lodge and a bake sale.

Nicole Beattie is the vice president of philanthropy and marketing for the YMCA in Northeastern Ontario.  She says about 100 people attended the Tuesday breakfast.

“It went really well, we had a wonderful response from the community,” Beattie told Rogers radio.

Beattie says they are very close to their fundraising goal of $110,000 with their fiscal year wrapping up at the end of March.  All the funds raised for the Strong Kids campaign go toward supporting children and families to allow them access to YMCA programming such as summer camps, swimming lessons, and even child care.

“We are making sure there is a place to belong for everybody in our community,” said Beatty.

“We have people who join us who understand the stories of the YMCA and how the YMCA really touches the local community, helping to send kids to camp and helping families locally.”

In this closing week of their fiscal year, Beattie is encouraging people to come in and donate to the YMCA to ensure that they can continue to help local children and families in North Bay.
