A Women2Women event to celebrate International Women’s Week is planned at Nipissing University Thursday.

“We are excited to host an event that will aid local groups who support women in our community,” said Sarah McGowan, NUSU Director of Communications. “It has been difficult for people to get together and make connections over the past few years and we are hoping this event gives women the opportunity to build relationships”.

The joint effort includes the North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, Yes Employment, Labour Market Group and Nipissing University Student Union (NUSU).

The community event will take place on Thursday, March 9th from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the NUSU Student Centre.

The entry fee is $10 with all proceeds going to two local groups: the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) North Bay Chapter, and the Amelia Rising Sexual Violence Support Centre. There will also be a silent auction to raise further funds.

The CFUW is a non-partisan, voluntary, self-funded organization located in every province across Canada. The local North Bay chapter provides scholarships and bursaries for local women attending Nipissing University, Canadore College, and local secondary schools.

The Amelia Rising Sexual Violence Support Centre works to ensure all counselling, education, and outreach services remain free of charge to all survivors in the Nipissing District.
