Snow tire season is here and with it, winter travel advisories.
A winter weather travel advisory is in effect for:
- North Bay - Powassan - Mattawa
- West Nipissing - French River
- Burk's Falls - Bayfield Inlet
- Greater Sudbury and vicinity
- Temiskaming Shores - Temagami
- Kirkland Lake - Englehart
- Deep River - Whitney - Eastern Algonquin Park
Snowfall is expected this evening through Friday afternoon.
Rain showers will change to snow late this afternoon or this evening as Arctic air floods into the region and temperatures begin to fall. Total snowfall amounts of 5 to 15 cm are expected by the time snow tapers off Friday afternoon.
Temperature falling to minus 1 this afternoon. Wind becoming north 20 km/h gusting to 40 this evening. Low minus 9. Wind chill minus 6 this evening and minus 16 overnight.
As temperatures dip considerably tonight, look for icy road conditions. As a result, travel will become hazardous.
Prepare for quickly changing and deteriorating travel conditions. Take extra care when walking or driving in affected areas. Slow down driving in slippery conditions. Watch for taillights ahead and maintain a safe following distance. Surfaces such as highways, roads, walkways and parking lots may become icy and slippery. Road closures are possible.
