The old adage the show must go on played out at Widdifield Secondary School Sunday night.
Friends of missing Lake Nosbonsing boater Christopher Stanley, who are in The Company's production of ‘Canada at War', staged the show while waiting for word on their friend.
The outcome was not the one they had hoped for.
At the conclusion of the production word arrived that the Search and Recovery Unit had located the 17 year old Widdifield student shortly after 8:25 pm this evening.
Grief stricken students hugged each other in disbelief.
“This makes no sense,” said a sobbing student.
“He was supposed to graduate next week,” she adds.
“It's going to be a tough day,” says teacher Jocelyn Bell-Summersby.
“And Wildcats are going to pull together tomorrow.”
Bell-Summersby says within minutes of the news that Stanley had been found there was a groundswell of support.
“Lots of support all over Twitter, all over Facebook letting us knows that they're there for the Wildcats, and today is not a day that matters what school you go to.”
She says the minute students hit the door tomorrow the staff and Near North District Board crisis team will be ready to support the students.
“We're so lucky to have a board that is so supportive because they do have a crisis team that's ready and able,” she says.
“And our principal and vice principal have already been in doing the work that's needed to make sure everything is in place for the kids tomorrow.”
“And they will be able to go through the healing process together.”
