West Nipissing outlines municipal services during lockdown

West Nipissing,  along with the rest of northern Ontario will be under shutdown for 14 days, unless extended by the province.

Under the grey-lockdown level of Ontario’s COVID-19 Response Framework, restrictions include a ban on indoor social gatherings with anyone outside of your household, the closure of many non-essential businesses and most fitness facilities, as well as limiting restaurants and bars to take-out and delivery services only.

The Municipality says it is actively monitoring the situation and continues to follow proper protocol as per our health authorities. 

"Residents can rest assured that we are committed to serving the public and will continue to offer essential services to our community."

Municipal Office (Town Hall) 

Effective at 4:00 p.m. on December 24, the Municipal Office will be closed to all walk-in visits for the duration of the shutdown. In-person essential services will be conducted by appointment only. When possible, we ask that residents pay bills online, at banking machines or by dropping a cheque into the drop-box located at the front of the building. Community and Recreation Centre
The Pool and Fitness Centre at the Community and Recreation Centre will be closed to the public until January 11. For information on bookings, residents can contact the Recreation Centre at 705-753-0160 or visit www.westnipissing.ca for updates.

Arenas (Sturgeon Falls and Verner
Arenas will be closed for the duration of the shutdown.

Testing Centre
The West Nipissing Assessment Centre will be open for regular business hours (10 a.m. to 4 p.m.) from December 21 to 23 and December 28 to 30. The Centre will be closed for the holidays on December 24, 25, 31 and January 1. Please call 705-580-2186 to make an appointment.

Curbside Waste and Recycling 
Curbside pickup will not be affected and will continue as regularly scheduled. Note that there are no changes to the pickup schedule during the holidays.

Landfills
The Sturgeon Falls Landfill be closed to the general public until Monday, January 11. The free Saturday of the month will be rescheduled to Saturday, January 16, unless the shutdown is extended. All other landfills will remain open as they serve residents who do not have curbside pickup community-wide.

Winter Snow Removal  
Snow removal and road maintenance services will not be impacted.

Outdoor Rinks
Outdoor Rinks are permitted to open under the shutdown. Preparations are currently underway to open our outdoor rinks very soon (weather permitting). Due to concerns with infection prevention and control, heated facilities, change rooms and public washrooms will not be available. A maximum of 15 people will be permitted on the ice at a time. Please plan and dress accordingly. An update will be posted on social media and our website as soon as rinks are open.
