The North Bay Snowmobile Club did not want to give a drop-dead date as to when the snowmobile season would be done, but  Shawn Flindall, director of marketing and communication with the Club believes it could definitely be this week.

"It's terrible we are probably going to be closing trails this week," said Flindall.

Flindall says a few trails had re-opened in the area between North Bay and Sturgeon Falls along with some in Mattawa and Bonfield up to Marten River through Temagami.

The club says this will likely be the end of a very short snowmobile season.

"There are quite a few trails that are open currently but with the incoming weather of rain and high temperatures everything is likely to close back down and I don't think it is going to re-open," he said on Monday.

"This was the most challenging, frustrating and short season on record, with local trails open for less than three weeks."

Flindall says the mild winter has taken its toll on the snowmobile industry in the North Bay area.

"Revenues at dealerships, lodges and restaurants are down everywhere, so it has been a highly unusual year this year," he said.

"I have been talking with lodge owners as far north as Cochrane and Kapuskasing and even they are saying their year has been lighter than normal and they have had a fairly decent winter.

"But same as here it has been open and closed trails, open and closed trails so it has not been the norm for anybody."
