The North Bay and District Health Unit advises residents in the Township of Nipissing and the Town of Powasson that current high water levels may cause contamination of drinking water sources as a result of flooding of private water and sewage systems.

It is recommended that residents of the flooded areas boil the water they intend to use for drinking, washing uncooked fruits and vegetables, preparing baby formula, making coffee, juice and ice cubes, and brushing teeth.

Water should be brought to a full, rolling boil for one minute. Pooling of water around wells and submersion of the well may indicate well water contamination and residents should not drink this water until water has been tested.

For further information, call (705) 474-1400 and ask for a public health inspector or visit the Health Unit web site at www.nbdhu.on.ca
