Warriors of Hope retiring their beloved dragon boat named Jane

The Warriors of Hope will introduce its new dragon boat and conduct a carnation ceremony to honour past members and loved ones who have passed

The Warriors of Hope, a breast cancer survivor dragon boat team, are proud to announce the launch of their new dragon boat and the retirement of their beloved boat, "Jane."

The community is invited to join the team for a heartfelt ceremony at Olmsted Beach on Tuesday, July 9 at 5:30 p.m. to honour the legacy of Jane and unveil the new boat.

Launched in 2000 during the year of the Water Dragon, Jane has been a symbol of strength and unity for the Warriors of Hope. Refurbished in 2009, Jane has served faithfully, participating in countless races and helping the team spread awareness about breast cancer. The name "Jane," originally from "Jane Doe," symbolized inclusivity and unity.

"The launch of our new dragon boat marks not only a new chapter for the Warriors of Hope but also a tribute to the incredible journey that has been shared with Jane over the past 24 years," said Sarah McGowan, Warriors of Hope secretary. "This event is a celebration of resilience, unity, and the enduring spirit of all our members, past and present."

In the tradition of dragon boat racing, the Warriors will conduct a carnation ceremony to honour past members and loved ones who have passed. Pink carnations will be placed in the water, symbolizing their enduring presence and our collective memories.
