Cody Ruberto says he is impressed with the start of his new rideshare business in the City of North Bay.

URide started its business in North Bay at the beginning of June.

“The feedback from our passengers has been fantastic,” Ruberto told BayToday in an interview earlier this month.

“They're excited about the price, and knowing when their car will arrive. One thing that has people thrilled is that they can watch their car on a map as it drives to their location. Their phone rings when their car arrives. We've also received a lot of positive feedback on our drivers, and the cleanliness of their vehicles. We have some incredible people helping their neighbours get around safely in North Bay.”

Ruberto says the volume has been good in the first month and he is hoping to bring on more drivers to the platform to help keep wait times as low as possible as people learn about the new service.

The new service has taken some heat from the taxi industry in the city.  The Police Board, which manages taxi licenses in the city, is expected to come out with a new by-law which will include taxis, limousine services and rideshare businesses.

Ruberto insists URide is safe despite not currently being under the police board’s by-law yet.

“To drive on the Uride platform, all drivers must pass a criminal background check, and have a clean driving record,” insists Ruberto.

“Vehicles must pass a vehicle safety. We provide drivers with commercial insurance coverage anytime their on the Uride platform, so drivers, as well as our passengers, are protected.”

Ruberto looks forward to reading the proposed bylaw and working with the city of North Bay to improve transportation and prevent impaired driving.
