Watch now over.

Be careful on the roads.

Environment Canada says a snow squall watch is in efect in effect for:

  • North Bay
  • Powassan
  • Mattawa

Snow squalls have been occurring over and to the northeast of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay as cold southwesterly winds continue.

The heavier flurries and local snow squalls have tended to drift into some portions of the watch areas. This watch will be upgraded to a warning if heavier squalls giving significant heavy snow and blowing snow are expected.

Snow squalls cause weather conditions to vary considerably, changes from clear skies to heavy snow within just a few kilometres are common.

Visibility may be suddenly reduced at times in heavy snow. Public Safety Canada encourages everyone to make an emergency plan and get an emergency kit with drinking water, food, medicine, a first-aid kit and a flashlight. For information on emergency plans and kits go to http://www.getprepared.gc.ca/

Snow Squall Watches are issued when conditions are favourable for the formation of bands of snow that could produce intense accumulating snow or near zero visibilities.
