Two new wildfires reported southwest of North Bay Monday

Two new wildfires were reported in Ontario’s northeast region on Labour Day.

Both are southwest of North Bay and are 0.1 hectares in size.

North Bay 19 is on a small Balsam Lake island, about 4 km northwest of the Port Loring airport. It is under control.

North Bay 20 is located west of Le Grou Lake, around 8 km south of Arnstein. It is being held.

Overall, there are 28 active wildfires in the region, one is being held, five are under control and 22 are being observed.

“The fire hazard is low to moderate across the Northeast Region,” said Aviation, Forest Fire and Emergency Services in a news release. “There is an area with a high fire hazard around Espanola, Greater Sudbury and Parry Sound.”

Northeast Region   

Two new wildland fires were confirmed in the Northeast Region by early evening on Monday, September 2:

  • North Bay 19 (NOR019) is a 0.1 hectare wildland fire that is under control. This fire is located on a small island on Balsam Lake, approximately 4 kilometres northwest of Port Loring airport.
  • North Bay 20 (NOR020) is a 0.1 hectare wildland fire that is being held. This fire is located west of Le Grou Lake, approximately 8 kilometres south of Arnstein.

At the time of this update, there are 28 active wildland fires in the Northeast Region:  1 is being held, 5 are under control and 22 are being observed.

Fire of note:

  • Kirkland Lake 5 (KLK005) is 889 hectares in size and is under control. This fire is located approximately 5 kilometres north of Stull Lake, 5 kilometres southeast of McKee Lake, and approximately 80 kilometres west of Latchford.

The fire hazard is low to moderate across the Northeast Region. There is an area with a high fire hazard around Espanola, Greater Sudbury and Parry Sound.
