Two people were charged with driving a transport towing a heavily damaged trailer along Highway 11 from Jellicoe to south of Cochrane say the OPP.
On February 16 at 1:09 p.m., a transport was involved in a collision on Highway 11 in the Jellicoe area, resulting in damage to the truck and trailer.
Then on February 18, at 8:44 a.m., the same transport was reported to the OPP to be driving on Highway 11 in the Cochrane area, with a damaged trailer and damaged cab.
OPP stopped the vehicle on Highway 11 south of Cochrane.
As a result of the investigation, the 27-year-old driver from Brampton is charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle
- Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report
- Fail to enter defects in the daily inspection report
- Drive a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in the drawn vehicle.
In addition, a driver, 33, from Brantford is also charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle
- Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report
- Fail to enter defects in the daily inspection report
- Drive a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in a drawn vehicle
The owner of the transport from Winnipeg, Manitoba is also charged with:
- Operate unsafe vehicle - commercial motor vehicle - two counts
- Fail to accurately complete daily inspection report - two counts
- Fail to enter defects in the daily inspection report
- Drive a commercial motor vehicle with a major defect in it or in a drawn vehicle - two counts
Police did not release names.
The transport was taken out of service in Cochrane, and licence plates were removed from the trailer.
"Driving with major defects will not be tolerated as it risks the safety of the entire motoring public," says Constable Kyler Brouwer.
