A house fire just after 7 p.m. last night at 1166 Metcalfe Street did not result in human loss of life, three dogs inside did not survive.
Fire crews from all three stations responded and had information that someone may have been in the home, so they immediately initiated a search to try and provide rescue.
"Firefighters did locate three dogs during the search and immediately got them out of the home but unfortunately, they had already succumbed to the smoke," said Deputy Chief Greg Saunders.
The dog owners were not at home at the time of the fire and were safely located later in the evening.
"Firefighters worked for hours and finally had the fire extinguished at approximately 10 p.m.," explained Saunders. "The home has suffered significant damage as a result of the fire and the family of five will be displaced for a significant period of time."
No firefighters were injured and the cause of the fire is under investigation.
Saunders says the cause of the fire is not considered suspicious.
