A 30-year-old North Bay woman that took a swing at her landlord is facing an assault charge today.
The assault took place inside a city residential unit Saturday, but police arrested and charged her yesterday.
Police say the woman, who is due to vacate her rental at the end of the month, punched her landlord while he was showing her unit to potential renters shortly after 2 p.m. on Saturday, December 10th.
The landlord, who had provided the accused with the required 24-hour notice before showing the unit, suffered minor injuries, as a result of the attack.
The accused was released from custody with a court date scheduled for January 17th.
But one of the tenants, Joshua McLeod says there is another side to the story.
In the BayToday comments section, McLeod says the landlord has been harassing them for the past six months.
"We ended up leaving that place and getting a new place. The landlord would not give us last month's rent back, so we have two places now. This landlord is only allowed to show it on Saturdays. We had to spend our Christmas money to get out of there. This land Lord has followed us around town and has even swerved at me with his mother's car, and yes I have called the police a number of times, and nothing has been done."
McLeod says he contacted previous tenants and they went through the same thing.
"Thank God we have a court date, so we can let the courts know what this landlord has been doing to his tenants. I myself have osteoporosis and asked the landlord if he can install a hand rail, and he denied me, he said he didn't have to, and after that I have fallen down the stairs and got hurt. He also sets our heat below 60°F and will not turn it up. We took our landlord to the landlord tenant board, and we're waiting for that too, but again we are grateful we have court date now."
