Calvin’s rink is ready to go, stop by anytime

Just in time for the holidays the ice is ready in Calvin Township

Sharpen those skates, Calvin neighbours, because it’s time to hit the rink.

Located beside the Community Centre at 1355 Peddlers Drive, Calvin’s outdoor rink is ready to go. The township’s Fire Department volunteers have been working hard to build the ice, and their efforts, along with some help from Jack Frost, have made for some excellent conditions.

The rink opened this past Friday, and the ice remains solid.

Donna Maitland, Calvin Township’s CAO, noted not long after the rink opened, “A few young lads were all too happy for their mom to drop them off to play some hockey on Friday afternoon.”

She also detailed some of the amenities the township offers at the rink. We’re talking a heated change room, outdoor bleachers for the fans, and lights for nighttime skating and hockey. Pus, there is a port-a-potty on site, and better yet, it’s heated.

There’s also a shovel in the change room you can use to clear the ice. As Maitland said, “Durst off that rink to warm you up before your skate!”

Good advice, and there’s also a little outdoor library by the bleachers where you can drop off good, used skates for the taking, Maitland noted. So, if little Luna’s skates are too tight this year, consider donating those to a neighbour.

The rink is open to all, and there are no sign-up sheets or scheduled hours to play. If the ice is soft, hold off on the skating, and the township also reminds you to wear a helmet on the rink. Safety first. Now get thee to the rink and let those blades fly.
