The news that the Ontario Trillium Foundation has given the North Bay Symphony Society a two-year $45,000 grant was greeted with enthusiastic applause at their April 24th concert. Nipissing MPP Monique Smith and Shirley Priolo, a volunteer with the Ontario Trillium Foundation’s local Grant Review Team, were there to deliver the good news in person to the musicians and an appreciative audience.

“The North Bay Symphony Society has built a long tradition of musical excellence here in the area. They certainly enrich our lives with their beautiful music. The Symphony is well deserving of this grant, which will benefit the entire community”, said Monique Smith.

The North Bay Symphony Society has been entertaining area audiences with their concerts and providing local musicians with an outlet in which to learn and grow musically for many years. The Symphony will continue to perform at the Capitol Centre four times a year, in addition to other local appearances. The grant from the Foundation will enable the organization to continue to grow and recruit a permanent, resident conductor.

"We thank the Ontario Trillium Foundation for supporting our passion to hear and perform live classical music in this community", said Janet Zimbalatti, President. "This grant will enable us to grow. We will build a firm foundation of professional musician support and continue to involve many local people in enjoying symphonic music, as musicians and as audience members.

Anyone interested in joining the symphony or receiving information about upcoming appearances can contact us at 494-7744”.

The Ontario Trillium Foundation, an agency of the Ministry of Culture, receives annually $100 million of government funding generated through Ontario's charity casino initiative. The Foundation allocates grants to eligible charitable and not-for-profit organizations in the arts and culture, environment, human and social services, and sports and recreation sectors.
