The West Nipissing Police Service is currently investigating the death of a 39-year-old woman says Chief of Police Chuck Seguin in a news release this morning.
"The investigation is criminal in nature and the death is being treated as suspicious."
Shortly after 11:30 p.m. last night officers were called to a disturbance at an apartment on William Street in Sturgeon Falls.
When police entered they came upon a man in the apartment and an injured woman. She was taken to West Nipissing General Hospital and was pronounced dead.
The man was immediately arrested.
"The scene has been secured and is subject to forensic examination by the Ontario Provincial Police Forensic Identification Unit who were called in to assist," added Seguin. "This is an ongoing investigation and no further details will be released at this time."
The woman is being identified by social media as Tammy Emma Lefebvre.
Eyewitness Jason Dempsey posted, "I heard her and her boyfriend arguing and went to check on her. He was screaming out the window, someone died call 911. The cops had been called by neighbors and they couldn't get in so I busted down that door. He took off and ran to the bathroom and locked the door. I broke down the door and arrested him but Tammy had already passed from her injuries. A beautiful angel gone to heaven."
