The Canadian Tourism Awards are extremely competitive and feature nominees from all Canadian provinces and territories.
This year, Northern Edge Algonquin, a nature retreat east of South River, Ontario is positioned to be the first ever winner of the brand new Brewster Travel Canada Adventure/Outdoors Award for Excellence in Tourism.
The Edge recognized with Ontario Tourism award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism in 2010, is a Five Star TripAdvisor-rated company, one of only two Platinum-level Greenleaders in Canada.
The awards ceremony is scheduled to take place November 30th in Gatineau, Quebec, where the winners will be announced.
Todd and Martha Lucier, the co-founders of the Edge, will be in attendance.
“It’s a great honour to be nominated alongside Churchill Wild and Wilderness Tours,” said Todd Lucier in a release.
“All three are very special Canadian outdoor experiences. Receiving this acknowledgement for excellence is great for our region because it demonstrates Almaguin Highlands has world-class tourism potential that stacks up with the best in the country. And since we focus on regional food, the nomination is national recognition we share with a wide variety of food producers including Stonemote Cottage, Springhill Farms and Sprucedale Quality Meats. We are also happy to share the limelight with experience partners including Sugardogs Adventure Co., Highlander Brew Co. and others. Local manufacturers are also part of our story with Swift Canoe providing all our canoes and stand up paddle boards and Bear Chair providing much of our our lakefront furniture.”
