Lena Fedeli holds on to a bowl of the best pasta in town
It may have been the weather, it may have been the municipal election candidates or it may have been the families with out power, whatever the reason it was a busy night at the Davedi Club.
For the first time in the history of the Davedi Club’s monthly Sunday Night Spaghetti Dinner a sold out sign had to be posted.
The dinner organised and run by club volunteers where overwhelmed with the response and had to put the sign up just before 5pm turning hundreds of people away at the door.
“Last month we set a record we were ready, we started cooking the pasta a 4pm, but we didn’t expect this,” says chief volunteer Hub Fedeli.
Davedi Club Ladies Auxiliary president, Lena Fedeli was also amazed by the crowd that showed up and also with the number of take out orders they had to fill.
“I thought we’d be busy with the elections in light of the fact that they like the Davedi Club,” she says.
“But with the bad weather and other people without power they’ve come out. The spaghetti is excellent … always fresh and people will wait for it.”
Based on the numbers from previous dinners, the Ladies Auxiliary will now look at how to meet the demand.
“We won’t run it twice a month,” says Fedeli.
“But we will look to increase the number of meatballs we make (currently 1300-1400) and extend the hours from 4pm to 7pm.”
BayToday did find a number of past and present candidates in the crowd.
