Signs of spring in Callander

'The exhibit includes photographs, and paintings done in acrylics, oil and watercolours' curator Natasha Wiatr.

The Alex Dufresne Gallery in Callander is presenting the North Bay Art Association’s “Spring Art Exhibit.”

The exhibit which opened over the weekend, features 30 works of art by area artists who are association members.

“It is an exhibit that we do every few years with them. They bring in works that a lot of them feel reflects the coming of spring and we always get an interesting variety,” explained curator Natasha Wiatr.

The exhibit includes photographs, and paintings done in acrylics, oil and watercolours.

“And there is some coloured pencil with pastel. It is pretty much whatever the artist is drawn to. I know a lot of the artists experiment with different types of mediums and different types of style of work,” said Wiatr.

“So, it is kind of nice when someone brings in something and one is acrylic and the other oil. It just shows the diversity and the talents that we have in our area.”

The exhibit also serves as a reminder to the public, that the gallery exists in conjunction with the Callander Bay Heritage Museum.

“A lot of people know about our museum, but they don’t necessarily know that we have this beautiful gallery space, and that we run up to five shows a year showcasing all of the wonderful talent,” said Waitr.

“It is just a relaxing time to enjoy some artwork.”

The current exhibit runs until April 25.

Many of the pieces are available for sale.

“Our gallery hours are still Thursday, Friday, Saturday right now, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.,” said Wiatr.
