Playing in his second straight Grand Slam quad doubles final at Wimbledon on Saturday, North Bay's Rob Shaw once again finished as the runner-up at the All England Club alongside his Australian partner Heath Davidson.

The second-seeded pair was defeated 7-6(5), 6-0 by the top-ranked Dutch team of Sam Schroder and Niels Vink. Shaw and Davidson had a great chance to take the opening set of the championship match after building a 5-3 lead in the tiebreak, but their opponents reeled off four straight points with their backs against the wall to take a crucial lead in the contest.

Shaw and partner Heath Davidson defeated Gregory Slade and David Wagner, a former partner of Shaw’s, in straight sets 7-6, 6-2 on Thursday at Wimbledon in the semi-final wheelchair doubles event.

Shaw, who sits at no. 3 on the ITF quad doubles world rankings, has now reached the final at three of the last four majors but is still seeking his first Grand Slam title. He’ll look to capture his Grand Slam title in New York later this summer.

Shaw, ranked seventh in the world in singles lost his singles match to the number two seed Sam Schroder from the Netherlands falling 6-1 and 6-3 early this week.

Born and raised in North Bay, Shaw graduated from Chippewa Secondary School and Nipissing University before moving west where he is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of British Colombia-Okanagan in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences.

At the age of 21, Shaw was injured in a diving accident rendering him partially paralyzed from the neck down; but even before negotiating the wheelchair game, Shaw was a top player and tennis instructor turned Club Professional at the North Bay Granite Club between the ages of 15-21.
