There was not the excitement and hype that you may expect, but then again it’s now the fifth time that Anthony Rota has been elected as MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming.

“I am honoured that the people of Nipissing-Timiskaming have allowed me to represent them in Ottawa another term,” said Rota.

The 58-year-old incumbent won the local election in convincing fashion, defeating Conservative candidate Jordy Carr by nearly 5,000 votes (193 of 205 polls) and taking 40 per cent of the vote.

Rota arrived shortly after 11 p.m.to the Davedi Club where he was welcomed with a party atmosphere by a contingent of supporters.

The only downside for Rota was the disappointment of a Liberal minority government result nationally.

“It is certainly going to be an interesting term coming up but the whole idea is that we have a reputation as a party and me personally of working with other parties and other people,” said Rota.

“This is certainly going to be an interesting time and I think we are going to do wonderful things for the country.”

Rota says he got a really good vibe during this campaign especially when he was canvassing door to door.

“What I heard from people when I was canvassing and talking to them, they like the fact that I am open, I am there for them, and whenever they needed something my office was there for them,” said Rota.

“That is a reputation I have built up over the years and I continue to take great pride in.”

Rota was also pleased with the way people voted during this election locally.

“People saw what happened in 2011 and they saw what happens when they start throwing their votes around. It is nice that they put their votes where they wanted not as a protest, but voting for someone, and I am honoured that they chose me,” said Rota.
