There were no injuries, but one roughed-up fire truck after a pumper overturned around 11:45 this morning on King Street near the corner of Ferguson.

The driver and sole occupant of the truck, Steve Smith, an experienced driver, was taken to hospital but released with a "clean bill of health," said Platoon Chief Don Vincent, of the North Bay Fire Department.

And the prognosis for the $200,000 pumper remains optimistic too, said public works mechanic Tom O'Reilly.

"The powertrain wasn’t hurt and the damage was mainly cosmetic," O'Reilly said, "and the damage looks a lot worse than it really is."

O'Reilly said he's now waiting for an estimate from the city's insurance adjuster.

Witnesses to the accident said the four-year old pumper was travelling at a normal speed.

One witness told Nugget reporter Brandi Cramer that the truck began to turn, then tipped on its wheels and rolled over onto the sidewalk.

Vincent said police and the fire department are investigating.

"We're not ready to offer up any speculation on what happened," Vincent said, "nor are we pointing any fingers.
We'll have to wait for the investigation to be completed before we can say if it was driver error, or a mechanical failure."

Preliminary investigation is focussing on the possibility of a mechanical problem, a news release from the fire department states

The pumper, which was carrying 1,500 gallons of water, was on its way to a fire on Hwy 11 North when the mishap occurred, the news release stated.
