High Lake Nipissing levels are overwhelming the residents of Jocko Point, west of the city.
"We're being flooded, several homes," Denise Edmunds told CKAT News. "We have sandbags however it's breaching over the sandbags now and has eroded a lot of our land.
"From the water to the road is about 200 feet and some properties are completely immersed in water. The waves are two to three feet high and are going past the sandbags. We have whitecaps actually"
Edmunds says residents haven't heard anything from Nipissing First Nation about evacuation plans or if they have to wait things out.
"We're waiting to hear. It got really bad last night. Winds from the east are what's causing it now."
Geneviève Couchie, Communications Officer says no evacuation order has been issued, however, about a dozen homes are being actively sandbagged.
Sandbags are being distributed from the Jocko Point Fire Hall and there are two sand piles – one near the pow wow grounds and one near the Fire Hall.
Each household in low lying areas will receive a maximum of 300 bags per lot. Additional bags will be subject to a site inspection.says the Nipissing First Nation website.
