The Redpath Group has officially opened a 1208-sq. meter repair and overhaul facility on Hwy 11 North.
The new mobile facility, which employs around 40 skilled trades people, represents a “very significant” expansion in Redpath’s operations, said Martin Hunka, the company’s vice president of finance.
Jim Redpath first started the company in North Bay over 40 years ago, Hunka said.
“We’ve now upgraded our facilities and modernized them by about 40 years,” said Hunka.
Redpath sits among the top mining service companies in the world and is involved in projects in Indonesia, Africa, South America and Mongolia, among others.
“We can access anywhere in the world from North Bay and the materials needed for our projects all get mobilized here,” Hunka said.
Scoop transports, underground trucks and mining hoists are among the vehicles and hardware which will be coming into the new facility for upgrading or repair, Hunka said.
Mayor Vic Fedeli said Redpath has always “shown confidence” in North Bay.
“Having Redpath here is just a great plus for the mining sector and keeps us on the worldwide map,” Fedeli said.
“The Redpath world head office is here and is an important attribute for North Bay. And mining-related companies like them are an incredibly big industry here that we pay particular attention to.”
