The North Bay & District Chamber of Commerce, in a news release today, says it is disappointed with the continued lockdown for our district.

“The Chamber has asked North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit to assess the current risk level and revisit the decision to extend the shutdown in light of the decline in cases,” stated Peter Chirico, President and CEO of the NBDCC. “Each week that businesses remain in shutdown represents job losses and increases the risk of permanent business closures in the region.”

Peter Chirico is the brother of Medical Officer of Health Jim Chirico.

The Chamber also wants improved communications and outreach to the business community from the Health Unit.

“A healthy economy contributes to the overall health of the community,” said Rebecca McGlynn, Chair of the NBDCC Board.  “As an organization, we are concerned about both the immediate and long-lasting impacts to our members,” said McGlynn.

The release also calls for limits to the sale of non-essential items at big box stores during shutdowns and increased funding and support for businesses in the North Bay Parry Sound District from all levels of government

Peter Chirico is also calling for adjustments to the COVID-19 response framework to allow small businesses to make in-person appointments at a limited capacity during shutdowns.

"If Chamber members need advice or information about funding or assistance, they are encouraged to reach out to [email protected] or 705-472-8480," says McGlynn.
