Organisers for the Patrick4Life Family Funfest held a special thank you dinner Saturday to bolster spirits leading in to Sunday’s race/walk in benefit of the AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area.

Organisers for the Patrick4Life Family Funfest held a special thank you dinner Saturday to bolster spirits leading in to Sunday’s race/walk in benefit of the AIDS Committee of North Bay and Area.

Event co-chairs 13-year old Gerri Clout and Mayor Victor Fedeli, joined by a number of special guests including Jeffrey Buttle, thanked the community for their support

Clout told the crowd that Patrick was a kind soul that always had time for everyone.

“I believe in Patrick’s dream, we all believe in Patrick’s Dream,”states Clout.

Clout who has raised to date $6,966 says she views the money, as combined effort between herself and the mayor as he seeded her campaign with a thousand dollars from his own pocket.

Fedeli, along with any other politician that has met Clout says they’re glad she isn’t running against them for office, said he was walking away from the event with a new friend in Clout. More importantly Fedeli says he got Patrick’s message saying he has a much better awareness about HIV and AIDS.

Buttle, who won an Olympic bronze medal in men’s figure skating at the winter games, has a long friendship with the Fortin Family that started with his mother stealing Richard Fortin from another billet family during a skating event.

“We need to raise awareness and educate the masses young and old.”

Clout agreed with Buttle saying AIDS is 100 percent preventable and with education no one should have to go through what the Fortin’s has.

“They (kids) are listening, if adults talk to us we will listen,” states Clout.
