A popular downtown healthy fast food restaurant has closed its doors for good in the downtown core.

The owners announced they shut the pita restaurant in late June.

“Pita Pit has now permanently closed at the North Bay location,” stated the North Bay Pita Pit Facebook Page.

“Thank you all for your heartwarming wishes and support during this time of transition. I was so touched by all your responses in this past weeks. Thank you again for all your love and support.”

The restaurant opened in North Bay in the fall of 2010 by original owners Raj and Liliana Mohanty.

The Pita Pit signage has already been taken down from the main street restaurant.

Laxmi Konwar, the current Pita Pit store owner says she will be opening a Himalayan Food restaurant in the city at a later date.

Konwar also expects a new Pita Pit restaurant under different ownership will open on McKeown Avenue this winter.

The Lebanese-style pita sandwich restaurant, which was created in 1995, currently has more than 650 Pita Pit stores in North America, Europe, Asia, the Middle East and Asia-Pacific.
