Police seeking suspect in Christmas mail thefts

Christmas is a time for giving .not taking, but police believe a real-life Scrooge is bah-humbugging residents in North Bay.

"Someone is getting coal for Xmas," tweeted North Bay Police.

They want help in identifying a male who was caught on video following a mailman on Fourth Ave Dec 12, then taking cards out of mailboxes.

Porch pirates are an increasing threat to your mail and parcels. An online survey of 1,500 Canadians found one in four people has had a package stolen.

One way to avoid theft?

Customers can sign-up for FlexDelivery – a free service offered by Canada Post where customers can choose from over 6,100 post offices for parcel pickup.

Theft of mail is an indictable offence under Section 356 of the Criminal Code, carrying a maximum penalty of 10 years in jail.
