"Really, the question will be, once that whole process comes back to council, is whether or not we are able to afford to do it. That's what it will boil down to," King tells Small Town Times host Dave Dale.
Former councillor Dave Mendicino joins the discussion and weighs in on the various stops and starts of the City of North Bay's goal to replace West Ferris Centennial Arena over the past 12-plus years.
Mendicino says the West Ferris community should be consulted about the arena's future use. "It could very well mean the building doesn't get eventually torn down. But, as an ice surface, as an ice rink, it's not doable anymore. It's not even a community centre anymore."
Meanwhile, Dale suggests miscommunication and lack of direction when it comes to the arena on Gertrude Street has caused questions about its viability to linger in the West Ferris community.
Dale maintains a new plan for the fate of West Ferris Arena is needed "because Omischl is not at the centre of West Ferris — nobody believes that. It's not a community centre because it's not in the centre of the community."
