There was no shortage of lead-footed drivers getting tickets locally during Canada Road Safety Week.which ended yesterday.
The Nipissing West OPP Detachment laid 109 speeding charges
In addition, they also issued these ticket
- Impaired by Drug charges: 1
- Seatbelt charges: 3
- Fail to Yield charges: 2
- Stunt Driving charges: 2
The Almaguin Highlands OPP issued a total of 71 Provincial Offence Notices which included 57 speeding charges.
Also:
- four fail to have an insurance card,
- three validation tag offences,
- three trespass to property offences,
- one driver was charged with failing to move over for an emergency vehicle,
- one driver was charged with not wearing a seatbelt
- one driver was charged under the Off Road Vehicle Act for not wearing a helmet.
Officers as well arrested one driver for "refusal to comply with demand" after receiving a driving complaint.
On Friday May 15, at 9:15 p.m. they received a tip about a possible impaired driver in Perry Township.
Officers found the man in Novar and arrested Jonathan Smith, 28, of Perry Township.
Smith was released from police custody and is scheduled to appear in court on Thursday July 30 in Sundridge.
Almaguin Highlands OPP also charged one vessel operator for failing to have a life jacket.
