Peter Chirico, the city's managing director of community services tried to return to work at City Hall around 8:20 this morning, but his security key card was disabled.

However, the former deputy-mayor walked in with another employee.

Chirico had been on long term sick leave amidst the controversial Memorial Gardens renovations.

Chirico was inside for about 15 minutes before leaving.

He told BayToday he is feeling good, but offered no other comment.

City CAO Jerry Knox would not make a comment on Chirico's arrival at work today, only noting that it's a "Human Resource related item."

The current City Executive Management Organizational Chart lists John Severino as the Interim Managing Director of Community Services.
