Pay what you can haircuts should lift spirits.

On the heels of an attempted murder downtown last week. Raven Flare hair salon is working with North Bay Pride, to show that good things also happen downtown.

"Hate has No Home Here," is the motto that is growing in the area.

So on January 30, 2022, from noon to 4 p.m, Raven Flare is offering Pay What You Can haircuts to help those on limited income get themselves a professional haircut to boost confidence.

You set the price for your haircut. If you only have five dollars, that is what you pay, if you have 50 dollars, that is what you pay.

“This is really exciting for us as we have never done this before," said stylist Amelie Simard. "We just know there are folks in our community that are having hard financial times and we want to do what we can. Pay What You Can, is the world of difference for some folks, but it is going to be a New Year, so everyone should have access to a new cut. This is our community. This is our city. We can all do better for our neighbours.”

Bobby Lagassie will be on hand to offer makeup tips.

"We know in our community there are low-income folks, and the fact they are giving the chance for anyone to get their haircut is amazing," Jason Maclennan, Communications Director for North Bay Pride.

"Everyone should experience the joy of a haircut; it helps build confidence and just feels good. And considering all the bad press in the downtown core about crime, this is a positive change to see."

Maclennan hopes other downtown businesses will jump on board.

Raven Flare located at 337 Wyld Street. Their number is 705-978-3080, There are no reservations, it is a first come, first served event.
