Parent charged after child, 14, involved in dirt bike accident

The rider of the dirt bike and sole occupant was transported to the hospital with minor injuries before police arrival

Huntsville OPP has charged a 14-year-old rider, and the parent after a dirt bike accident in Huntsville.   

On July 25 shortly after 4 p.m., officers responded to a report of a single-vehicle accident on Domtar Road north of Old Muskoka Road. The rider of the dirt bike, and sole occupant, was taken to the hospital with minor injuries before police arrival.

As a result of the investigation, a 14-year-old was charged with:

  • Careless driving
  • Not properly insured
  • Unlawfully driving an off-road vehicle on the highway
  • Fail to report an accident
  • No driver's license
  • No number plate showing permit number
  • No Off-Road Vehicle Permit. When riding on-road or off-road the driver of an ORV must carry and produce the registration permit or a true copy and proof of insurance

The parent of the driver was also charged with:

  • Adult permits a person under 16 to drive
  • Adult permits an unlicensed person to drive a motor vehicle
  • Adult permits a motor vehicle to be operated without insurance

Both accused are scheduled to attend the Ontario Court of Justice in Bracebridge at a later date.
