Outdoor rinks opening to be delayed again

"Mother Nature is not helping us at all here."

Mother Nature is not being kind to city crews and volunteers attempting to get local area outdoor rinks ready for action this winter.

Officials at the city initially targeted Monday, January 11th as a potential opening date for the city maintained outdoor rinks but City Community Development Facilitator Bryan Kimber says the mild temperatures will be pushing that opening back.

“Mother Nature is not helping us at all here,” admitted Kimber.

“With the mild temperatures we will have to go back and do more work to the rinks.  Best case scenario with the current weather forecast  is January 13th but, as always, this is dependent on weather conditions.”

Prior to this warm spell rinks were getting the first layer of ice down but now some of that ice is now melted and turned to slush.

With the current forecast the weekend of January 16th and 17th may be a more likely opening date.
