Nipissing University has renamed its new student orientation week from Frosh Week to Owls Week.
"We have changed our teams to include the word 'owl' as a nod to the Nipissing coat of arms," says a release from the Nipissing University Student Union.
OWLS Week (Orientation Welcome Learning & Social) will take place from Tuesday, August 29 until Saturday, September 2.
Students form teams during orientation, and to add some cheeky fun to the events, all team's names will include "owl" in them.
For example, "The Beatowls" (The Beatles), and "Finding Nemowls" (Finding Nemo) are two of the eight teams competing.
Frosh Week was renamed Owls Week for three reasons explains the release:
- The Athenian owl that graces the Nipissing University Coat of Arms
- The team names now have the word owl in them
- It's a full-circle journey with students starting within OWLS Week and graduating with an owl-adorned degree
As part of Owls Week hundreds of students will disperse across eight different locations, to raise both funds and awareness for Cystic Fibrosis Canada. This initiative, organized by the Nipissing University Student Union, marks over three decades of supporting this cause for North Bay.
