The OPP has released the name of the pilot who perished in Monday's plane crash on Talon Lake.

The only occupant on the flight, was the operator, 57-year-old, Michael MacNeil, of Ottawa, Ontario and he was pronounced deceased at the scene.

Members of the North Bay Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) along with the Bonfield Fire Department and the North Bay Ambulance Service responded to a call for an Ultralight plane that had crashed on July 30, 2018, shortly before 10 a.m.

The crash site had been engulfed in flames and cottagers reacted quickly to the situation. Approximately 20 to 25 cottagers immediately conducted fire suppression.

They began using buckets and coolers in a chain, handing full buckets over, being moved up to the crash site and with the assistance of the Bonfield Fire Department, the fire was held under control.

The Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is continuing their investigation to determine the cause of the incident.
