Members of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) North East Region (NER) Community Street Crime Unit (CSCU) with the assistance of officers from Nipissing West Detachment, conducted a Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA) investigation on Front Street in Sturgeon Falls, Ontario on July 25.
The OPP says officers seized a number of drugs suspected to be Fentanyl and an illegal knife. The street value of the drugs is approximately $6500.
As a result of the investigation the following persons, all from Sturgeon Falls, Ontario were arrested:
Maxime Emond, age 33, was charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Opioids, contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act (CDSA);
- Trafficking a Schedule 1 Substance - Opioids, contrary to section 5(1) of the (CDSA)
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Cocaine, contrary to section 4(1) of the (CDSA);
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking - Other Drugs, contrary to section 5(2) of the (CDSA);
- Unauthorized Possession of a Weapon, contrary to section 91(2) of the Criminal Code of Canada (CC); and
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000, contrary to section 355(b) of the (CC)
The accused was held in custody pending a bail hearing on July 26, 2019, in North Bay.
Janick Denomme, age 29, and Jason Lachapelle, age 40, were charged with:
- Possession of a Schedule I Substance - Opioid, contrary to section 4(1) of the (CDSA)
Both parties are scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Sturgeon Falls on September 5, 2019.
