A North Bay police officer suffered minor injuries this morning after being struck by a stolen vehicle.

Around 11:30 the officer saw a stolen vehicle in a parking lot on Memorial Drive. When the officer approached the vehicle the driver tried to flee and struck the officer.

Another officer chased the vehicle for a short distance before the pursuit was ended by a supervisor for public safety reasons. The vehicle was later seen in another area of North Bay and after a short foot pursuit, a suspect was arrested.

A 22-year-old Brampton man is now in custody. The officer who was initially struck was taken to hospital and later released with minor injuries.

The investigation is continuing, and further details will be made available in the coming days.

North Bay Police Service would like to thank bystanders who assisted the officers.
