Black Friday continues to build momentum as sales started Friday and continue on during the week.

Jordanna Grant, Northgate Shopping Centre’s Marketing Director, says it was very busy at North Bay’s largest mall on Black Friday and the entire weekend.

“Black Friday has turned into Black Friday week and even beyond,” Grant told BayToday.ca

“Our gift card promotion was a big hit and we plan to do another one again in the next few months.

“Cyber Monday sales tend to translate to in-store promotions as well, there isn’t really a decrease in overall store sales on Cyber Monday.”

Grant believes Black Friday popularity is taking some of the novelty away from Boxing Day.

"Also, many are choosing to do their Christmas shopping on Black Friday which is why it seems gaining popularity over Boxing Day.  Gift and gift card purchases are big on Black Friday and on Boxing Day people tend to shop for themselves.”

However, on the national stage, the one-day shopping frenzy at malls and stores following American Thanksgiving may be on the decline as some consumers and retailers start to shun the tradition by either opting out entirely or turning to internet shopping instead.
