North Bay's Robert Shaw is competing at the high-profile Wimbledon tennis tournament at the All-England Club in London, England.
Shaw, who competes in the quad singles and quad doubles categories was in action today.
Shaw, ranked seventh in the world in singles lost his singles match to the number two seed Sam Schroder from the Netherlands falling 6-1 and 6-3.
However, Shaw's first Wimbledon experience is not done with that quarterfinals loss.
The 33-year-old is also competing in doubles, in which he and his partner Heath Davidson of Australia are ranked third in the world.
After this appearance, he will have played at every Grand Slam event
Shaw has had many accolades in his tennis career including a gold medal in the 2019 Parapan Am Games as well as being the Canadian quad singles champion at least five times.
Born and raised in North Bay, Shaw graduated from Chippewa Secondary School and Nipissing University before moving west where he is currently pursuing a PhD at the University of British Colombia-Okanagan in the School of Health and Exercise Sciences.
At the age of 21, Shaw was injured in a diving accident rendering him partially paralyzed from the neck down; but even before negotiating the wheelchair game, Shaw was a top player and tennis instructor turned Club Professional at the North Bay Granite Club between the ages of 15-21.
