Charges for unruly passenger including assault with a weapon

The North Bay Police Service arrested a 33-year-old man for multiple charges including assault with a weapon, drug possession, and mischief.

On January 4, 2025, two victims and the accused in this incident were travelling together in the victims’ car. Upon arrival at a parking lot on Chippewa Street West, North Bay, the accused refused to leave the vehicle. Police say an argument ensued and, while holding a pair of wire cutters, the accused began assaulting
one of the victims by punching and attempting to choke the victim. Once out of the vehicle, the accused began to damage the vehicle. Police attended the location and located the accused nearby and he was arrested and charged.

The accused in this incident is Chad Edward Commanda, male, age 33, of North Bay, who is charged with:

  • One count of assault
  • One count of assault with a weapon
  • Two counts of possession of a schedule I substance
  • One count of mischief under $5,000
  • One count of fail to comply with probation order

Searches by police resulted in the seizure of:

  • Approximately 1.5 grams of suspected fentanyl
  • Approximately 7.5 grams of suspected crystal methamphetamine

The accused in this incident was held in custody pending a bail hearing at the North Bay Courthouse.
